Tots
(for dancers age 4)

Seattle & Eastside

Tots classes are designed for children who are ready to dance on their own. Children must be 4 years old by August 31st of the current school year. No audition required. Classes take place once per week and are 45 minutes long, each class session is 9 weeks long.

Children will dance and move in a stimulating environment focused on creativity, group interaction and the joy of self-expression. Tots students start class with a warm-up consisting of simple stretches and dance moves to build body awareness, strengthen focus and improve coordination. Students learn to follow directions and build confidence with group exercises. Tots classes include individual and partner work within the class structure to encourage both independence and cooperation. Tots classes strengthen a student’s spatial awareness and introduce the basic rules of moving in a ballet classroom. Musical instruments along with fun and educational props are used to enhance rhythmical timing, moving in different directions and physical skills like turning, jumping and galloping. Classroom manners and cooperation are an important part of learning about dance and are incorporated into the Tots curriculum.

Creative Movement classes encourage imagination, self-expression and group interaction while introducing basic ballet movement and music concepts. This helps to build body awareness, strengthen focus and improve coordination and flexibility. Students learn to follow directions and build confidence with group exercises. Students work to increase their spatial awareness by learning to dance and move in different directions and formations. Physical skills like skipping, turning, jumping and galloping are practiced to increase strength, balance, and control. Simple props are used to enhance classroom exercises. Students participate in PNB School’s culminating Petite Finale performances each spring.

Creative Dance for Boys

For Dancers Ages 5 – 6

Seattle Only

Children must be 5 years old by August 31st of the current school year. No audition required. Pacific Northwest Ballet School offers a fun and energetic class that introduces music and movement to boys ages 5 and 6. Classes take place once per week and are 45 minutes long, each class session is 9 weeks long.

This helps to build body awareness, strengthen focus and improve coordination and flexibility. Students learn to follow directions and build confidence with group exercises. Pre-Ballet

Pre-Ballet
(for dancers age 7)

Seattle & Eastside

Children must be 7 years old by August 31st of the current school year to enroll in Pre-Ballet. Students meet once a week for an hour. Pre-Ballet registration and commitment is for the full PNBS school year. No audition is required.

Barre work is introduced for the first time in Pre-Ballet at PNBS. Students learn the correct way to work at the barre while executing basic ballet positions and movements. Posture and correct body alignment is emphasized as students begin to build a solid foundation for classical ballet training. Learning to maintain focus and concentration during class is an especially important aspect of the Pre-Ballet year.

Center floor work includes exercises for increasing flexibility, learning correct head and arm positions for port de bras, musicality, coordination, balance, and strength. Simple jumps and fun traveling steps are introduced to build muscle control and stamina, while also encouraging the joy of movement and expression.  

Students enrolled in Pre-Ballet are evaluated each spring by PNBS faculty, in consultation with the School Principals. Promotion to Level I in the PNBS Student Division is by invitation only. Students participate in PNB School’s culminating Petite Finale performances each spring.
